While places like Snug Harbor, a marina with a ton of character, on the section of heights road facing Lake Orion hold out. Other classic places like Lake Orion Lumber as well as many low income housing options have since been demolished. Affordable Duplexes, Businesses like Hamsa Yoga and Cj’s lakeside diner are being pushed out for more graphics companies, luxury condos and expensive but not high end restaurants. Even the old high school will be turned into expensive housing. It Makes you want to hold places like Eva’s close. It seems like lake orison’s government is far more concerned with attracting new people instead of embracing the people lake Orion already has. While lake Orion cops are taking me to court because of my lawn, Orion township is buying failed athletic clubs with our taxes and still charging us regular rates to use it. All while the people who work at the coffee shops, grocery stores and local restaurants are getting priced out. At this point the Kroger is mostly staffed by high schooler’s. Lake Orion is very avidly trying to root out anyone who makes under $25k a year so I’m going to try to savor this place that’s been so special to me until its completely unrecognizable. Ill Keep sharing my adventures here, especially as things are so rapidly changing. I’m trying to find the positives but its hard watching the place you grew up so desperately try to change. Kind of like a rebellious teen trying to distance themselves from who they are in an effort to fit in, and maybe be seen by people they care about. But doesn’t realize we love them just the way they are. There is always room for improvement but don’t lose touch with who you are and what makes you special like the lake Orion city council is doing right now. When people come to a cute lake town, they expect all the cute marinas not to be torn down.
